ResponsibilitiesJoin an innovative and patient-centered team transforming how cancer care is delivered. The Cancer Care Beyond Walls (CCBW) program reimagines oncology by bringing expert care directly to patients in the comfort and safety of their own homes. Through strategic partnerships and seamless integration with both virtual and on-site care teams, CCBW provides cancer-directed therapies, supportive care services, and essential ancillary services—all outside the traditional clinic setting.
We are seeking a Triage RN to play a pivotal role in this groundbreaking model. As a key member of the CCBW team, the Triage RN uses advanced videoconferencing tools to conduct real-time assessments of cancer patients experiencing symptoms. Leveraging clinical expertise, sophisticated decision trees, and strong nursing judgment, the Triage RN determines the appropriate interventions and coordinates the timely dispatch of in-home services as needed. Additionally, this new Triage RN role will continue to grow and evolve alongside the expanding CCBW program. The Triage RN will play a key role in shaping the future of the role, contributing directly to program development, enhancing the patient experience, and improving clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide virtual triage and symptom management for oncology & hematology patients
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments via video and telephone
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and external partners to coordinate timely care
Utilize clinical protocols and critical thinking to prioritize patient needs and initiate appropriate interventions
Support the ongoing development and evolution of the virtual RN role within the CCBW model
The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role.
This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification
QualificationsGraduate of a baccalaureate nursing program.
One year of RN experience in oncology, or related field preferred
Additional Qualifications:
Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
Excellent communication skills and collaboration abilities (verbal and written).
Comfort with technology, videoconferencing platforms, and electronic health records
Ability to work independently while remaining connected to a dynamic team environment
Experience working in a team environment.
Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
License or Certifications:
Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
Arizona and Florida - Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
Midwest - Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross. =
Positions that are not on campus may not require current Basic Life Support (BLS) competency as determined by the work area.
Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
