Responsibilities

Student Nurse Intern positions are available in Fairmont, Mankato, New Prague, St. James, and Waseca. Interns may have the opportunity to rotate through multiple departments and locations, providing a diverse and well-rounded healthcare experience. More information will be provided at the time of offer.

The Student Nurse Intern (SNI) performs delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care with the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The designated tasks are those which have been taught in the academic programs and/or orientation, and where the individual has demonstrated competence to a designated RN.

Qualifications

Completion of two semesters in an Associate's in Nursing program, or completion of junior year in a Bachelor in Nursing program required prior to start. Candidates must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2028.

Once accepted into the Summer Nursing Internship Program, student interns will be required to apply for a summer intern course at a university or college in Minnesota for the duration of the internship. Information will be provided to selected candidates upon offer acceptance.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association is required and must not expire during the internship.

Reliable transportation is required.

The internship will run for 10 weeks from June 7, 2027, through August 13, 2027.  Applicants must be able to complete ten consecutive weeks of employment.

The application deadline is December 31, 2026. Offers will begin going out the week of February 1, 2027.

During the selection process you may participate in an OnDemand (pre-recorded) interview that you can complete at your convenience. During the OnDemand interview, a question will appear on your screen, and you will have time to consider each question before responding. You will have the opportunity to re-record your answer to each question – Mayo Clinic will only see the final recording. The complete interview will be reviewed by a Mayo Clinic staff member, and you will be notified of next steps. There will be a deadline to complete this interview.

If you apply to more than one health system site, you will only need to complete the virtual interview once. Your interview responses will be reviewed for all locations to which you have applied. (Does not apply to Rochester).

You are expected to provide the following application materials at the time you submit your application.  Items cannot be uploaded once you hit the submit button.  Do not submit your application unless you have attached all of the documents. • Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers OR BLS for Healthcare Providers)

Note: If your BLS card is set to expire during the internship, you must renew your card prior to the first day of employment. It must remain valid throughout the full duration of the internship.
