Responsibilities
The Department of Neurology at Mayo Clinic Arizona is recruiting one Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on diverse problems within neurology and neuroscience. The fellow will be mentored by Dr. Oana Dumitrascu, MD, MSc ( Dr. Oana Dumitrascu Bio) and Dr. Gina Dumkrieger, PhD. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in and quantitative experience with neuroimaging, retinal imaging, large databases (e.g., UK Biobank) and machine learning/artificial intelligence models. In the initial project the fellow will develop multimodal (clinical and imaging data) diagnostic and prognostic models related to Alzheimer’s disease, cerebrovascular and other cognitive disorders.
We are searching for an individual who is ready to take the analytical lead in this exciting project to identify neuroimaging vascular biomarkers of early AD and digital biomarkers which differentiate early AD from other causes of cognitive impairment. This person will work closely with a cross-disciplinary team of physicians and other researchers, but qualified individuals will have experience working with limited supervision and will contribute actively to the development of the research projects they work on.
The Research Fellow will contribute to new project development, grant writing, data analyses, and scientific manuscripts/presentations (first author and co-author). There will be opportunities to develop independent research projects and grant proposals based on individual research interests. Candidates will participate in training, education, and professional development opportunities available at the Mayo Clinic or Arizona's local top Universities. The Fellow will also receive support to present at professional meetings or other professional development opportunities.
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Upon background check and CCATS Executive Committee approval, Research Fellow may have patient/research subject contact directly relating to and incidental to the original research program. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic. The following is required for the completion of the application:
- Current curriculum vitae
- Statement of Interest describing relevant experience, interests, and future goals
- Proof of doctoral degree (Original or notarized copy of a diploma or final transcript issued by the school) or a letter from your university Registrar's office indicating you have fulfilled all doctoral program requirements and are eligible to graduate. English translation is required if applicable.
- Three letters of recommendation may be needed prior to an interview. The letters of recommendation should include the following:
- Relationship to the applicant
- Past work/academic performance
- Work qualities/personal conduct
- Overall assessment of the potential for success in a research environment
