Responsibilities
Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, is recruiting an academic rheumatologist to join the Division of Rheumatology within the Department of Medicine. The Division seeks an outstanding clinician educator committed to excellence in patient care, education, and scholarly activity within a highly collegial and collaborative academic environment.
This role is primarily clinical at entry, with an anticipated 70% clinical effort, and is well suited for an early to mid career academic rheumatologist seeking a stable and rewarding clinical practice with opportunities for professional growth.
Clinical responsibilities include:
- Predominantly outpatient rheumatology practice with exposure to complex, quaternary level rheumatic diseases
- Participation in established disease focused clinics, with subspecialty interests that may include:
- Spondyloarthritis
- Myositis
- Systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARDs), including lupus, scleroderma, and Sjogren’s disease
- 3–4 weeks per year of inpatient consult service, working on a team with internal medicine residents and a rheumatology fellow
- Call responsibilities are limited to these inpatient service weeks
- Delivery of high quality, patient centered care consistent with the Mayo Clinic Model of Care, including multidisciplinary collaboration with a wide variety of subspecialists, such as Pulmonary Medicine, Neurology, Dermatology, and Cardiology.
Education and mentorship responsibilities include: - Bedside and clinic based teaching of medical students, internal medicine residents, and rheumatology fellows
- Participation in teaching assorted topics of rheumatology fellowship curriculum, including responsibility for delivering at least one yearly lecture
- Day to day clinical mentorship of trainees and professional role modeling
Scholarly activity is expected and may include:
- Clinical practice program development and quality improvement projects
- Participation in clinical trials, including pragmatic or decentralized trial models
- Digital health innovation and applications of AI in rheumatology care delivery
Institutional and divisional pilot funding and infrastructure are available to support clinically focused scholarship. This position is not structured around a traditional NIH‑funded investigator pathway, and K‑award or R‑level funding is not required.
Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. degree
- Completion of an accredited rheumatology fellowship
- Board certified or board eligible in Rheumatology (ABIM)
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical rheumatology
- Strong interest in teaching and mentorship
Academic rank is not required for eligibility, but promotion to Assistant Professor or Associate Professor is attainable based on experience/qualifications post-hire.
Eligible candidates must be board certified or board eligible in Rheumatology and eligible for Minnesota medical licensure.

Compensation Detail
The minimum starting salary for medical specialties may range from $208,000 to $708,168. This range reflects full-time total base compensation prior to consideration of additional experience or duties. Pay for the selected candidate will vary based on specialty, experience, FTE, internal equity, or external market data.
