Responsibilities
The EMU/Inpatient EEG Supervisor provides operational, clinical, and strategic leadership for the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and inpatient EEG services within Neurology. This role is responsible for ensuring exceptional patient care, maintaining high standards of quality and safety, overseeing staffing and workforce development, and supporting the implementation of innovative neurodiagnostic technologies and workflows. The supervisor fosters staff engagement through coaching, mentorship, and professional development while collaborating with physicians, education programs, and departmental leadership to advance the mission of delivering expert diagnostic services for patients with complex neurologic disorders.
Manages staff and the assigned work unit operations within a multi-laboratory Division. Maintains technical expertise by performing neurodiagnostic procedures on a regular basis. The supervisor covers an assignment if needed and must work collaboratively with the other CNP supervisors. The supervisor is also responsible for coordinating staffing within the work unit(s) to ensure that all patient studies are completed, duties are assigned and that tasks are completed each day. Monitors daily work processes to improve efficiency and patient satisfaction. Provides direction for day to day operations, facilitates a positive work environment and acts as a coach and mentor to the allied health staff within the work unit(s). The supervisor acts as the liaison between the physicians, technologists, clinical assistants, etc. within the work unit. The supervisor coordinates breaks, training, quality assurance tasks, staffing to work load, strategic planning activities and continuous improvement initiatives. The supervisor monitors processes, supplies and staff. Communicates effectively with the work unit staff, patients and other medical center employees. Must be able to work independently and have demonstrated leadership, communication and problem solving skills. Must be highly organized, efficient, and able to implement and manage changes.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required or must be completed within two years of hire and a minimum of five years’ experience in a Neurodiagnostic/Sleep Medicine Laboratory is required.
Additional Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership abilities including excellent communication, human relation, and organizational skills.
- Must have broad base knowledge of computer functions supporting work unit operation.
- Demonstrated strong performance over the previous 2-3 performance evaluation cycles is also required.
- Experience in supervision or management related functions are preferred.
License/Certification:
- Must be a current Registered Neurodiagnostic Technologist to apply. Within two years of employment, R. EEG T. certification through ABRET – Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation is required in the laboratory of hire.
- Must have current certification in Basic Life Support.
