Responsibilities
The Endoscopy Technician III is responsible for performing delegated activities related to patient care and overall team support in the GI procedure room setting. Under the supervision of a physician or nurse, will assist with direct patient care during procedures and assist the physicians with necessary equipment used during colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, as well as other ancillary procedures performed in the Mayo Clinic endoscopy procedural areas. Is responsible for multiple patient care roles and duties outside of the procedure room including recovery room, and endoscope reprocessing rooms. Is also responsible for maintaining competency in current endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfecting. Is expected to perform in a dynamic and changing environment with changes in daily assignments at short notice. Patient care and teamwork is the priority. Must be able to function independently and possess equipment troubleshooting skills in the procedural area, as well as following established procedure guidelines. Commitment to Endoscopy is required.
In addition, the Endoscopy Technician III is responsible to actively participate in at least two of the following functions/roles, as determined by the Nurse manger or work unit assignment:
1. QUALITY ASSURANCE AUDITOR
a. Ensure staff are practicing at the highest level of scope cleaning ability
2. ANCILLARY Practice
a. Supports ancillary practices, such as but not inclusive: Small Bowel Capsule; Carbohydrate Breath Tests, Motility Tests
3. CHARGE TECH/Lead Tech
a. Acts as resource point of contact for the work unit
4. EDUCATION/PRACTICE/RESEARCH ROLE
a. Supports practice, education, orientation, and/or research activities, as delegated by the NES, CNS, and/or NM, may be in collaboration with physician led research
5. Advanced Therapeutic Practice
6. a. Supports specialty practice in advanced procedures; often in the hospital environment with such procedures but not inclusive: ESD, POEM, EFTR, ESG, Rigid Bronch, Pleuroscopy, Pleurx placement
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and minimum of two-years of Endoscopy Technician II experience (or equivalent).
• Outside GI Endoscopy procedural experience considered; however, one year of experience as an Endoscopy Tech II at Mayo Clinic is required.
• A 2-year commitment to Endoscopy required.
• Maintain competency in both the Tech I and Tech II roles.
• Knowledge of multiple electronic applications, including use of Microsoft Word, Outlook and TEAMs.
• Knowledge in surgical or central service functions, intravenous catheterization, phlebotomy and/or GI endoscopy equipment and procedures.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to work independently and/or in a team setting.
• Experience performing multiple tasks within a work shift; able to prioritize work including non-patient care tasks
• Demonstrates positive attitude, flexibility, and a willingness to support change and innovation.
• Excellent written/oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrates initiative and willingness to take accountability for assigned tasks.
• Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
• Works flexible hours to meet the demands of the work unit
License or Certification:
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required within 60 days of hire. Maintains BCLS competency
