ResponsibilitiesThis position supports the Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) department for all of Mayo Clinic locations including Phoenix, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida; Rochester, MN and Mayo Clinic Health System. This is a Hybrid position so incumbents may work remote but must live within driving distance of the Mayo Clinic Rochester campus.
The Design Technician (Project Coordinator) at Mayo Clinic is responsible for developing and documenting solutions for the institution's Patient Care Communication Systems (PCCS). This involves producing low-voltage electrical documents, maintaining CAD databases, and providing technical resources for supporting PCCS and existing nurse call systems. The design technician will also participate in developing standards and ensuring quality control and timely project completion.
The Healthcare Technology Design Technician (Project Coordinator) applies both technology, analytic and management skills to assist and collaborate with medical and allied health staff in activities which support the Division’s mission and goals. To qualify for this position, the individual must be a high performing technologist or technician with excellent organizational skills: be able to accurately collect, analyze and draw appropriate conclusions from large data sets; have exceptional interpersonal relationship skills for interaction with all levels of medical staff and allied-health personnel; possess good written and oral communication skills; be able to work independently with minimal direction or supervision; and be able to flex work days and/or hours to meet changing workload demands and needs. The individual must have exceptional computer skills, and be proficient with Microsoft Office products, including SharePoint, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint. A working knowledge of all types of medical equipment, and the current Mayo medical equipment inventory/fleet, is essential.
Responsibilities include:
Coordination of division management reporting and outcomes measurements; Project coordination, facilitation, and management; Quality monitoring and improvement; Technology Management; Assessment and development of new programs related to medical equipment management/support; High level departmental planning; Back-up administrative support and leadership roles for section head and work unit managers.
- Develops and documents solutions related to institution's ongoing remodeling needs.
- Produces Shop and Technical documents for PCCS projects.
- Maintains and develops Institutional Building and Campus Computer Aided. Design and Drafting (CADD) databases and other HTM/Facilities databases.
- Provides and maintains building and campus infrastructure system drawings for maintenance and design.
- Participates in developing and applying PCCS standards.
- Serves as a resource or advisor to the institution on PCCS issues as requested.
- Develops, modifies, and updates Reference Standards, Design Guidelines, and General Specifications under supervision of architects and engineers.
- Serves as a key technical resource in HTM involving the implementation of CADD, databases, and related technologies.
- Participates in the development and enhancement of CADD production tools.
- Routinely interacts with vendors and provides technical interpretation for required services.

QualificationsThe individual must have an understanding of electrical and architectural plans used in the construction process, be able to interpret these plans as they relate to PCCS, and:
- Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience working with medical equipment in a hospital or clinic environment OR
- An Associate’s degree from a technical school, college OR Biomedical Equipment Technology training from a United States military branch, and 5 years of experience in a biomedical technical field or strongly related technology related field OR
- A high school diploma and 7 years of demonstrated leadership, technical, or project management related experience at a large, complex organization like Mayo may be considered in lieu of the degree
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required. Additional or advanced degrees in technical, business, or management areas are beneficial. Strong leadership, communications, and organization skills are essential. Must be skilled in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software. Other skills such as financial, business processes, budgeting, and continuous improvement would be helpful.
