Responsibilities
We are seeking a full-time Librarian I to provide dynamic library services at Mayo Clinic’s Venables Library, the smaller of two academic libraries in Rochester, Minnesota. This entry-level position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the success of learners and faculty. The librarian will develop professionally as a health sciences librarian and be part of an organization known for excellence in patient care, education, and research.
The Venables librarian will primarily support the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences but also welcome patronage from other Rochester-based Mayo Clinic Schools. Direct supervision will be provided by the library supervisor at Mayo Clinic’s Mitchell Library, which primarily serves the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine.
The Librarian I will collaborate with faculty to ensure the library’s collections meet instructional and research needs, support students and learners in effectively accessing and using library resources, design and deliver library orientations and instructional sessions for a variety of academic programs, and contribute to library-wide initiatives such as literature searching and special projects.
While independently responsible for the daily operations of the Venables Library, the Venables librarian will join the collaborative Mayo Clinic Libraries team, benefiting from the resources, expertise, and collegial support of a large academic health sciences library system.
The Librarian I, an intermediate Bachelor-prepared position, bridges the Associate and Librarian career ladder series. Under general supervision, the Librarian I performs professional level responsibilities encompassing library science, information management and information technology. This position may perform work related to public services, technical services, systems or archives. Public services responsibilities may include the provision of reference, research and educational services to faculty, staff, students, patients and others. Technical services responsibilities may include acquisitions, collection development, cataloging, database/electronic resource access and/or serials management in support of the Mayo Clinic Library system. Depending on library setting, the Librarian I may direct work unit activity in the absence of the supervisor.
May participate on library committees or task forces. May perform other tasks that support services, maintain workload or provide coverage in the work unit or elsewhere in the Mayo Clinic Library system.
