Responsibilities

Mayo Clinic is seeking to fill two Manager of Practice Communications roles, each supporting the advancement of our Bold. Forward. strategy within the clinical practice. While both positions are grounded in strategic communications leadership, each role offers a distinct area of focus:

  • One position will support the strategic communications needs of the Mayo Clinic Clinical Practice Committee (CPC) and the enterprise Practice strategic plan.
  • The other will lead the communications strategy for Mayo Clinic’s category-of-one clinical care pathways, partnering closely with clinical departments across the enterprise to promote integrated, patient-centered care delivery.
  • Applicants will be considered for both roles under this single posting. Final placement will be based on candidate interest, skills and experience.

Key Responsibilities

While each position has a distinct focus, the following responsibilities are shared across both roles:

  • Serve as a strategic communications advisor to senior Practice leaders, including CPC leadership and clinical department heads.
  • Develop and execute enterprise-level communication strategies to elevate Mayo Clinic’s model of care and drive understanding of key practice transformation initiatives.
  • Ensure communication efforts are aligned with institutional goals by partnering closely with physician and administrative leadership.
  • Lead integrated, multi-channel communications that increase visibility, engagement and clarity around enterprise Practice priorities.
  • Communicate complex healthcare concepts to diverse audiences—including staff, clinicians, researchers, patients and the public—in a clear, accessible manner.
  • Create compelling content for digital, social, visual and internal platforms to reinforce Mayo Clinic’s leadership in serious and complex care.
  • Use data and analytics to evaluate communication impact and inform continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Media Relations to identify experts and develop timely media content.

Clinical Practice Strategy Focus

  • Support enterprise communications aligned with CPC priorities and the Practice strategic plan.
  • Translate high-level strategy into clear messaging that supports leadership visibility and system-wide alignment.
  • Drive internal communications and stakeholder engagement related to enterprise transformation efforts.

Clinical Care Pathways Focus

  • Develop strategic messaging that supports the implementation and adoption of enterprise-wide clinical care pathways.
  • Partner with multidisciplinary teams to craft narratives that highlight innovation, outcomes and the patient journey.
  • Support change management communications that promote care redesign and pathway optimization across departments.

About the Department

The Department of Communications is responsible for building, growing and protecting Mayo Clinic’s reputation by shaping the external environment and nurturing a culture aligned with the organization’s mission. This includes reputation management, client and staff engagement, thought leadership, content strategy, community and government relations, and communication insights.

Leadership and Operational Expectations

The Manager of Practice Communications will:

  • Apply functional leadership of staff and projects to develop and execute communication strategies.
  • Collaborate across the department to meet operational goals, ensure efficient execution and uphold high standards for excellence.
  • Maintain strong, trust-based relationships with physician and administrative leaders to ensure communications reflect enterprise practice goals.
  • Represent the department on committees, task forces and working groups at the enterprise and site levels.



Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field plus 5 years of relevant work experience. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in a way that creates clarity, simplifies messages, and aligns with organizational strategy. Knowledge of channels for communication and the ability to build effective communication and engagement strategies. Experience with a top-ranked academic medical center is preferred.

Must be a self-starter with the ability to independently identify opportunities, solutions and resolve challenges. Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results. Requires an attitude that actively seeks out change, embraces critical questioning, innovation, service and continuous improvement. Must understand how to deal with and navigate ambiguity, and act without having the total picture. Adaptable or flexible. Demonstrated professionalism and ethics, with ability to earn credibility through integrity and transparency. Role models service excellence. Motivates others by being present, engaged, attentive, invites diverse perspectives, demonstrates and inspires a collaborative spirit.

Demonstration of strong management skills including strategy and visioning, change management, resource management, and sound judgment are required. Demonstrated use of management principles of delegation, organization and execution to maximize the value of projects and initiatives is also essential. Excellent interpersonal skills to include presentation, negotiation, persuasion, team facilitation, constructive feedback and written communications skills are required. Superior project management experience, knowledge and skills must be demonstrated. Incumbent must have the ability to independently manage a varied workload of projects with multiple priorities. Demonstrates interest in continuous learning and professional development, in addition to functional area expertise.
