Responsibilities
To develop and produce radiation oncology treatment plans per physician prescription with oversight and approval by a Certified Medical Dosimetrist, a Medical Physicist, and or a Radiation Oncologist. Medical Dosimetry Assistants work diligently with the radiation oncologist utilizing all available computerized and/or manual treatment planning tools, and researches patients' needs and develops the best treatment plans for their patients. The Medical Dosimetry Assistant will perform related dosimetry functions that include, but not limited to, treatment consultation, imaging, fusions (MRI, CT, PET, Myleogran, etc.), normal tissue contouring as defined by the physician, three-dimensional planning, standardized proton planning, verification planning, comparison planning, emergency treatment planning, research data transfers, protocol data submission, radiobiology planning, and teaching responsibilities. As assigned by the Dosimetry Supervisor, the MDA will participate in meetings and special task groups.
Qualifications
The Medical Dosimetry Assistant must have graduated from a JRCERT accredited program in Radiation Therapy. The Medical Dosimetry Assistant position requires an individual experienced in all aspects of a Radiation Oncology facility. The Medical Dosimetry Assistant position requires an ability to learn and apply complex procedures, thorough knowledge of radiation oncology, and strong human relation skills with experience in interacting with a diverse group. The MDA requires strong organizational skills, must be able to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously with efficiency. An MDA also requires the ability to communicate effectively and the use of good decision making and judgment capabilities.Certification through ARRT in Radiation Therapy (RTT Certification). Continuing educational hours are required to maintain the registered status of 24 hours in two years to maintain AART.
