Responsibilities
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will work in collaboration with a care team of NP/PAs, consultants, residents, and allied health staff. The NP or PA will be an integral member of the Department of Dermatology, practicing within the outpatient clinic, covering a full range of medical services and minor office procedures for patients with dermatologic disorders and diseases. This position focuses on general clinical dermatology and does not offer training in cosmetic services or surgery.
An ideal candidate will be committed to taking part in daily fast-paced, busy clinics with frequent minor procedures (biopsies, intralesional injections, cryotherapy, etc.). Provision of care may include, but is not limited to, comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, diagnosis, prescription of pharmacological treatments including biologics, administration of non-pharmacological therapies, minor office procedures, and patient education. Graduated training will be provided. An ideal candidate will also have a strong desire to take ownership of their patient panel, with oversight from consultants in the Department as needed. This includes determining initial plans of care, following up biopsy results and adjusting plan of care accordingly, as well as answering patient-related questions in the portal.
Diverse clinical experiences are available, including participating in specialty clinics. There will be potential to participate in quality improvement, research, and publications. Non-patient time will be allocated for professional education, patient correspondence, and diversifying professional activities. Participation in departmental academic activities including visiting professor lectures, clinical grand rounds, and conferences will be expected.
There are two practice locations for Dermatology: Gonda Building and Mayo Medical Complex Northwest Building A. This position will work primarily at the Mayo Medical Complex Northwest Building A with one to two days per week at the Gonda Building.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from a Nurse Practitioner program. Current MN RN and certification as a FNP or ANP required.
Or graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a current PA certification by the NCCPA and registration as a PA by the MN State Board of Medical Practice.
Must hold or be able to obtain and maintain BLS certification. Must hold or be eligible for DEA registration.
