Quality and Education Specialist

Provides leadership based on the vision, mission, philosophy, and core values of Mayo Clinic. Ensures clinical documentation is present, quality metrics are abstracted and the patients' admission and continued stay status is documented as medically necessary. Assures compliance with external and internal measures for these programs. Advocates for and allocates appropriate resources to ensure quality services are provided. Responsible for ongoing staff growth and development alongside the ICDI Leadership. Acts as a resource and facilitates ongoing collaboration and communication with numerous individuals and roles within and outside of the department to ensure continued program growth and development.

Continuously monitors the progression of staff performance and productivity metrics while providing mentorship, education and guidance to meeting departmental goals.  Performs various types of audits and special projects on behalf of enterprise ICDI e.g., Quality and Query auditing, DRG Validation or other secondary review, and supports targeted audits as needed. Need to support various types of educational dissemination as needed and remain agile with the needs of the program and methods of education, which could include live presentations, video recordings, 1:1 feedback or other group educational sessions.

This is a hybrid position that is primarily remote. Candidates must reside within 100 miles of a Mayo Clinic campus to meet occasional on-site requirements based on business needs. Mayo Clinic campuses are located in Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Bachelor's in healthcare or other related field and 5 years’ healthcare related work experience, with CDIP or CCDS and CCS.
•    Master’s in healthcare or other related field and 3 years’ healthcare related work experience, with CDIP or CCDS and CCS.
•    Juris Doctor (JD) with 7 years’ healthcare related experience; Employees hired after April 30, 2025 CCDS or CDIP and CCS required.

Demonstrates leadership skills/ability as well as project management skills. Requires the ability to coordinate/manage multiple projects and activities in a changing environment. Excellent communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Relevant experience includes lead roles, project/committee leadership, and/or supervisor experience. Computer experience in Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Previous experience with external accrediting bodies (e.g., NCQA, JCAHO) helpful. Previous supervisory experience beneficial. Master's degree in nursing administration, healthcare administration, or business preferred. Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid guidelines helpful. Understanding of managed care and commercial review experience helpful. Experience in developing and implementing new products, services, or business lines helpful.

 Understanding of Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, CMS IPPS, MS-DRG and APR-DRG methodologies, Risk-adjustment, AHA Coding Clinic is required.
