Senior Manager - Pre and Post-Analytical Reference Laboratory Southaven, MS

The Senior Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for pre- and post-analytical functions within a high-volume reference laboratory environment.

The ideal candidate brings significant clinical/reference laboratory experience, strong knowledge of laboratory operations and workflows, and demonstrated success leading teams in a complex, service-driven environment. This leader will partner closely with analytical laboratory operations, client services, logistics, quality, IT, and other key stakeholders to ensure seamless service and an exceptional client experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead pre- and post-analytical laboratory operations, including specimen receiving, accessioning/processing, problem resolution, result delivery, and related client support functions.
• Ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, quality, productivity, turnaround time, and service expectations are consistently achieved.
• Lead, develop, and engage managers, supervisors, and staff while building a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Identify and implement workflow, technology, and process improvements that enhance laboratory efficiency, quality, scalability, and client experience.
• Partner with analytical laboratory leadership to ensure effective end-to-end laboratory workflows and resolution of complex operational issues.
• Monitor key performance and service metrics, identify trends and risks, and develop action plans to improve performance.
• Support growth initiatives, new client implementations, and expansion or optimization of laboratory services.

This position is a limited-tenure role intended to support the formation, launch, and stabilization of a new company and laboratory. As the organization matures, the role is expected to transition to a permanent infrastructure position within a separate company operating independently from Mayo Clinic Laboratories.

 A bachelor's degree and a minimum of six years of operational management experience;

 OR a master’s degree and a minimum of three years of operational management experience are required for this position.

Acceptable degree disciplines include business, organizational leadership, logistics and supply chain management, engineering, information technology, health care administration, medical laboratory science or equivalent, biology, chemistry, or related field. 

Additional Qualifications:
Operational management experience must include a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal (physician, scientist, administrative, supervisory, and allied health staff) or external client stakeholders. 

Must have excellent organizational, human relations, decision-making and problem-solving capabilities as well as excellent presentation and communication skills.

 Must have ability and confidence to effectively function independently, be a self-starter, and a team player. 

Must have led direct reports in previous positions. 

Must be capable of effectively presenting to internal and external groups. 

Must be accountable, adaptable, flexible, creative, dependable, responsible, and able to perform well within multi-functional environments while adhering to Mayo Clinic and MCL policies and procedures.

Master's degree preferred. 

Experience with large and complex customer service, domestic and global logistics, or field-based service teams is preferred. Operational experience within an external-facing business entity competing in a highly competitive market is preferred.
