ResponsibilitiesMayo Clinic's Mayo Collaborative Services Data & Analytics Services group is seeking a Data Engineer - who will play a critical role in building out the Operating Insights Reporting team, which is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining operational reporting solutions for the Mayo Collaborative Services business area. This role will focus on enabling data-driven decision-making by leveraging modern analytics platforms and integrating diverse data sources into scalable reporting pipelines.
In addition to collaborating with internal stakeholders, the Data Engineer will also engage with external groups such as Center for Digital Health, Cloud Infrastructure teams, and other application and data resource areas to ensure seamless integration and alignment across platforms. The individual will be expected to work with others to stay informed on emerging reporting technologies, contributing to the continuous evolution of the reporting ecosystem.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather reporting requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Develop and manage dashboards and reports using tools such as:
- Tableau
- Microsoft Power BI
- Google Looker Studio
- SAP BusinessObjects (Crystal Reports, Web Intelligence/Webi)
- Microsoft Reporting Services (SSRS)
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and performance across reporting solutions.
- Support the transition of on-premises reporting systems to cloud-based platforms (e.g., Google Cloud).
- Ability to design and build and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes to support operational reporting.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and external partners to ensure reporting solutions align with strategic goals.
- Maintain documentation and provide training/support to end users.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies in reporting and analytics to inform future development.
- Practice best practices and ensure they are applied in all initiatives.
- Align long term vision to individual initiatives and deliver solutions iteratively.
- Willingness and desire to skill up to ensure they are skilled for the tasks of building a modern data factory.
- Understand and participate in DevSecOps, to deliver incremental and iterative solutions using Agile techniques.
This position does require the user to gain Professional Data Engineer certification with Google within 2 years of accepting this position.

QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field from an accredited University or College; OR an Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field from an accredited University or College with 2 years of experience. Demonstrated ability to analyze and profile data as a means to address various business problems through leveraging advanced data modeling, source system databases, or data mining techniques, is required. May provide consultative services to departments/divisions and committees. Demonstrated application of several problem-solving methodologies, planning techniques, continuous improvement methods, and analytical tools and methodologies (e.g. data analysis, data profiling, modeling, etc.) required. Incumbent must have ability to manage a varied workload of projects with multiple priorities and stay current on healthcare trends and enterprise changes. Interpersonal skills and time management skills are required. Requires strong analytical skills and the ability to identify and recommend solutions, advanced computer application skills and a commitment to customer service. Experience with data analysis, quality, and profiling; including data exploration tools including but not limited to Rapid SQL, AQT, Information Analyzer, and Informatics.
